Over the years, Sunrise has grown from a suburban bedroom community to the number one city in Broward County in terms of job growth for the last two years, with more than 10,000 new jobs created.

The city of Sunrise was incorporated in 1961 under the name Sunrise Golf Village. At that time, Sunrise was entirely undeveloped. In 1971, a referendum changed its original name to Sunrise.

To keep pace with the growth, Sunrise continues to add new facilities and upgrade services to its residents and businesses. Sunrise housed corporate and division headquarters of major companies and the National Car Rental Center, home of the Florida Panthers Hockey team. Sunrise is also home to the popular Sawgrass Mills, the largest mall in the Southeast with 300 stores of discount shopping.
