| In southwest Broward County, Pembroke Pines is a thriving residential
community with population exceeding 112,ooo. It has grown partly from Miami Dade
County residents moving north.
Every type of housing is available, from single family, townhouse, small or
large condominium, to apartment. Country club communities and large condominiums
have complete recreational facilities. Smaller townhouse complexes may have
pools and tennis courts.
A tiny group of Pines subdivision residents created this new city in 1960.
They named it after the road that led to the city and the lovely pines that
shaded it. Pembroke Pines eventually increased in size from two to thirty- four
square miles. Average household income is about $46,000.
The 1.3 million-square- foot Pembroke Pines Lakes Regional Shopping Center is
the leading mall.
