Northern Broward is home to the unique city of parkland. Ones one of the area's best kept secrets, it is just in the last ten years that people "discovered" Parkland. Incorporated in 1963, the population jumped from 545 in 1980 to 15,000 in 2001.The city passed its first comprehensive land use plan in 1987. Parkland is predominately residential with a small portion zoned for commercial and industrial. Long-term projections call for an eventual population of 27,000 and city leaders have taken a conservative approach to growth in order to maintain Parkland's small-town flavor.
