 Oakland Park is a community with mostly single-family homes. Apartment and condominium buildings abound throughout the city. First named Floranada in 1925, the city was officially incorporated as Oakland Park in 1929 a named for the large stand of oak trees along the banks of the Middle River. The city has grown to its current population of over 28,000 and developed it s community services, recreation and civic organizations.
