Lauderhill was incorporated in
1959 with around 100 residents and acres of developable land.
From grazing pastures, single-
family homes began to dominate en early, urban landscape.
Lauderhill grew by nearly 30,000
residents between 1970-80, primarily as a result of the promotional activities
of the Jackie Gleason Inverrary Golf Classic.
Lauderhill today encompasses 7.6
square miles, over 50,000 people and an abundance of single and multi-family
residences. The business community ranges from service organizations to light
industry. Lauderhill is known for its health and social services programs and
recreational and cultural activities. It is the home of the largest Caribbean
celebration, "Unite-A-Fest," in Broward County. the Weston Art Festival is
held on the third Saturday and Sunday in November.
