Primarily a vacation resort, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is lined with apartments, hotels and motel (over 2,500 units) for rental by tourists or winter visitors. Located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intercostals Waterway, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is about thirty-five miles from both Miami and West Palm Beach.

The town is filled with shops that carry resort- and beach-wear plus an array of Florida remembrances. Nearly 3,600 people live here year-round in lovely homes, many of which front canals or the Intercostals.
