Southern Florida is among the country's high-technology magnets, drawing these industries from across the nation. Broward and Palm Beach counties, in particular, have

become corporate or regional head-quarters to several leaders like Siemens and Motorola in the computer technology and related fields.

Palm Beach County spans 2,054 square miles and has about 6.67 percent of the state's population. This ranks I number three in population, but only number nine as far s density of people per square mile with a little over a million population.

Miami-Dade County is an international financial center without equal in the United States. Foreign trade, especially with South America, has adopted Greater Miami as its own world headquarters.

Corporate multinationals and business and industrial enterprises like the possibilities here. The nation's business leaders bring and build enterprises here, while enhancing the lifestyle - rather than compromising it. Housing in Southern Florida keeps pace with the growing population.

Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm beach counties will continue to rank among Florida's top growth center. Their total population exceeded 4.8 million at the turn of the century.

According to census figures, Miami-Dade County ranks number one in Florida with about 2.2 million people (nearly 15 percent of the state's residents) living there on 1,955 square miles. About half of the county's population is of Hispanic origin.

Broward County, with 1,211 square miles, has nearly 10 percent of the population -ranking it number two.

Housing is as diversified as the population - designed to meet the needs of year - round residents and snowbirds, young families and retirees, vacationers and visiting business people.

Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and Palm Beach are ,by far , best known among the Gold Coast cities. They each contribute their own brand of charm to the area and have shaped the character of Southern Florida.

These and the other fifty communities highlighted here are your key to Florida's Gold Coast. Each community offers its distinctive amenities and flavor - sometimes not readily discernable.

Newcomers would be wise to carefully consider where they live.
